“At The Globe I was doing well … but it wasn’t what I wanted to keep doing … I was stuck for too long on the night copy desk … and I was having a hard time getting noticed … I didn’t let up for years. I devoted all my spare times to writing food stories … Ultimately, I spent a couple of years trying to make myself indispensable at the post and then threatening to leave unless they gave me what I wanted.”
