Interview Highlights
“Look at a job as a way to bring whatever skills you have that an organization needs but might not have enough of.”
Best Career Advice
“Opportunities don’t just happen. It’s very rare that an opportunity is going to fall into your lap, where someone’s going to find you and offer you something that’s your dream job. You need to put yourself into a position where opportunities can happen to you.”
Career Challenge
“There was one time when I was told specifically that I shouldn’t write a certain memo because I wouldn’t be able to do so effectively given my political beliefs. Now I had never talked about my political beliefs in the office, so they were making assumptions. And I insisted that I write the memo. I thought, I am a professional civil servant, this is my job. If you don’t want me doing this, then I shouldn’t be here.”
