Career Challenge
“It was a main piece that alleged abuse, chemical weapons in Southeast Asia targeting Vietcong during the Vietnam war and American POWs. It was a big deal piece of CNN and it turned out to be widely disputed and actually discredited. A lot of the reporting wasn’t done well. I was brought into it as a Washington Bureau Chief. I looked at it. I never thought the actual reporting was bad, but I felt that it was written in ways that were a little loose…I trusted my colleagues, but I was told by it and I should have been far more assertive. I should have spoken out.”
