Best Career Advice

“Be your own best friend, your own best advocate.”

Career Challenge

“When I moved to Dallas, it was the week after the Times Herald folded. So suddenly Dallas went from being a two newspaper town to a one newspaper town, so I was competing with other newspaper editors and reporters on their beat. It’s not just enough to be a good writer and a good reporter. You really need to know the market, the readers, you have to have the contacts among the higher ups, the business leaders, depending upon what your beat is. And I had none of that.”
