Interview Highlights
“The first thing I did for money as a kid was bring my Halloween candy and sell it to classmates out of a suitcase. The first real job I had after that is I had a paper route. I did work at a fast food place for several years in high school. I did that, but I was just using that money to save up, to buy more music and more music equipment. And when I left high school, I started a record label. That’s when I started my first real business. And then I was fine. I was getting fax orders in my bedroom and I was shipping stuff overseas. And I was sending stuff to New York City and London. I took this entrepreneurial spirit and the money that I’d made in legit jobs, just to really invest in the thing that I wanted to create.”
Best Career Advice
“The most powerful thing I could say to [young listeners] is to question their fear, the question, this fear of like, well, what if it doesn’t work out? What if it’s not the right role? What if I’m judged? What will my parents think?”
Career Challenge
“Communication is the biggest challenge in almost every organization. It doesn’t matter if it’s six people in a one room office or if it’s 6,000 people and we have offices across the country and I’ve seen it. I’ve been in both.”
