Best Career Advice

“Get comfortable with failure, get rejected from 12 universities. When I was trying to move to D.C., I applied to 65 jobs on a color coded spreadsheet, and I got two interviews and you only ever know the opportunities you’re going to get by banging at the door.”

Career Challenge

“I’ve had these moments in my life where I’ve really been challenged and not just at Mercy Corps, but other places, because it doesn’t always sit right with folks if you’re of a certain age or a woman or you look young. And some people can take it the wrong way. And I think you kind of have to get this attitude, always being respectful in the environment you’re in, but also having the confidence to say ‘I’m here for a reason. I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t qualified.'”
